No injuries were reported and a cause of the fire has not been determined, dispatchers said.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
The fire was contained to the roof area of one building, which is part of an area of the facility currently under active construction, according to a release issued by the city late Wednesday afternoon.
“Hamilton Fire Department crews responded quickly and successfully brought the fire under control despite extremely challenging conditions caused by very low temperatures,” the city said in the release. “Their quick action helped contain the fire and protect the facility. The City also extends its appreciation to the assisting departments for their support and service during the response.
The city is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
“At this time, wastewater treatment operations have not been impacted, and a full assessment of the damage is underway,” according to the city.
The Water Reclamation Division operates the Water Reclamation Facility, one satellite wastewater plant, seven wastewater pump stations and one storm water pump station, the city said on its website.
“The Water Reclamation Facility returns an average of 8.5 million gallons of clean water to the Great Miami River each day,” the city said. “Up to 48 million gallons per day can enter the plant during a severe storm event.”
About six dry tons of solids are removed from the wastewater stream daily and reused to benefit the environment, according to the city.
